Creativity
We believe that pupils at Old Heath learn best if they enjoy their
work, it all links together and they have ownership of their
education. Through adapting the curriculum across the school to
ensure it is exciting, topic based and primarily taught through
first hand experiences we have produced amazing results.
In partnership with the creative curriculum provided we also have a themed week each term. These themes have included creative arts, sports, multi-cultural and multi-media weeks. There are many workshops led across the school by parents, teachers and visiting experts, involving the entire community where possible.
Over the past three years we received an arts council grant to allow us to have professional artists in residence in our school for 30 days. This was an exciting opportunity for the pupils to work in partnership with a professional artist.
Following the success with the artist we received a further grant from creative partnership to work for a term with professional film makers. This project culminated in the pupils producing, directing and filming their own programme
This academic year we have pursued the creativity of music and sport. Pupils on a weekly basis have fencing lessons. They have all progressed through the national grades and have competed against another school in a tournament. These pupils will have an opportunity in 2012 to visit the olympics and see the best fencers in the world compete! Pupils' have also learnt to play guitar, flute and african drums through weekly lessons. To enable this to take place the school has been provided with 30 guitars, drums and flutes to ensure whole class teaching to take place!
